Quicklink and Cobham SATCOM demonstrate Bonded HDR

Quicklink and Cobham are the forefront of a new technological change for the broadcasting industry. Cobham SATCOM, the leading manufacturer of Inmarsat satellite communications equipment, and Quicklink, the leading global provider for cost effective, high quality broadcast solutions are proud to demonstrate the bonding of two Cobham 710 HDR BGAN terminals together achieving IP streaming of 1Mbps or even higher.

About the Cobham Explorer 710

The all-new EXPLORER 710 provides on-demand streaming rates at 650 kbps out of the box. As the world’s smallest Class 1 BGAN terminal and the first to take advantage of Inmarsat’s new streaming service (High Data Rate), the EXPLORER 710 delivers high-speed, ultra-portable satellite streaming for broadcasting and other IP-based industry applications.

EXPLORER 710 also introduces Smart Phone apps to the world of BGAN connectivity, enabling users to wirelessly connect their own devices for voice calling and connectivity. The terminal is light, compact, tough and incredibly reliable. It opens more possibilities for connecting devices, offering more flexibility. It’s ultra-portable, so you can be set-up within minutes of arriving on scene.

EXPLORER 710 is the complete package, featuring touches like a USB host interface, hot-swappable batteries, easy-to-use LED display and multiple interfaces.

Quicklink Bonded HDR Technology

The Quicklink Merlin Backpack Encoder and other Quicklink products have been assigned a unique algorithm that allow users to bond easily two BGAN HDR terminals, essentially ensuring users transmit in excess of 1Mbps. Users can also use the Quicklink Merlin backpack to  bond 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, Internet and Ethernet to gain additional bandwidth and resilience.

Quicklink offers a wide range of Live and Recorded News Gathering Solutions including the Mac and Windows software and streaming mobile Apps. The Quicklink iPhone LNG App is free to download and is perfect for use on mobile devices over BGAN if cellular networks are congested. The App utilises cloud-based servers installed on the Amazon Web Services platform around the world, allowing users to take advantage of shorter distances for video to travel before being routed live on-air or archived for later use.
