Last year the UK, and the rest of the world, were in shock over the execution of British hostages David Haines and Alan Henning. BNN was sent to Perth to broadcast an exclusive interview with Michael Haines, David Haines’ brother, and to cover the memorial service.
For the interview and service in Perth, BNN faced many challenges; “It was a fast turn around day” says Director of Photography, Bobby Nelson, “we had to be in multiple locations and didn’t have much time in between. We had an exclusive interview with Michael Haines and a post statement, as soon as this was finished we had to go to another location for the memorial service.”
BNN decided to use the Quicklink Mac Live Software and to transmit over the Ka Band network . Bobby Nelson added; “The Quicklink software works hand in hand with the Ka band. Working up in the highlands, the seasonal weather can be unpredictable and can affect the network performance from the satellite. However the Mac Live adapts to the situation. The software does the hard work for you.”
The Quicklink Software LNG Mac Live offers consistent and broadcast quality transmissions that provides a valuable live media solution. The latest release of the Quicklink Mac Live software is compatible with the free update of OSX Yosemite from Apple as well as being optimised for the Black magic mini recorder. The auto adjustable error resilient and error recovery capabilities, provide outstanding visual results under conditions of packet loss over even poor quality communication circuits
Quicklink Head of Sales Bethan Hill, “The software is very easy to use. All connections and set up may be defaulted, in which case the operation is as simple as ensuring that the camera and network connections are in place and clicking on the “transmit” button.”
“It works really well, very stable, without any problems.” says Bobby “We have spoken to various broadcast engineers who run MCR’s for STV, ITN etc and they are absolutely amazed by the quality produced from the live broadcast.”
Bobby concluded; “The versatility of having the Mac Live on the laptop is having the freedom of broadcasting from anywhere. Having the solution setup in the SNG truck makes life much easier.”
The new version Mac Live 5.7 is available to download as a free trial from the Quicklink website.
