The latest TX from Quicklink is a recently released solution that enables professional reception and transmission of multiple Skype video calls through multiple SDI interfaces. The Multi TX Quad is equipped with dual Xeon multi core processors allowing management of up to four simultaneous full frame HD two way Skype calls.

The system is specifically designed for live transmission with its high availability option. The dual power supply, raided swappable front loading drives and system monitoring with alert notification via SMS/SNMP/email offers peace of mind.

The multiple incoming Skype calls can be queued and the studio can communicate with each caller or with a group of callers using Quicklink’s proprietary IFB return audio with no interruption to the return audio to the caller.

The Multi Quad also offers the studio the ability to insert overlay graphics such as “on air” notification or a company logo on the return callers Skype video. Both IFB and overlay can be manually, GPI or API controlled.

The system is optimised to improve call quality including automatic or manual colour correction per channel. This is ideal when receiving Skype video from callers with poor background lighting setup.

The system supports both Dante/AES67 and Video over IP I/O, thus ensuring seamless IP workflow integration.

Eugene Ho, Partner Director of Product Management for Skype says: “We’re proud of our work with Quicklink to offer this flexible, scalable and cost effective solution that minimizes the control room footprint to broadcasters.”

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, the Institute works with students and scholars from many countries, and reaches out to business leaders, professionals worldwide.

The organisation needed to find a professional solution that could be used to conduct high quality live interviews with global contributors and broadcast news media.

Clay Barnett, the Institute’s Media Technician, says, “The Quicklink TX is miles ahead compared to our makeshift workflow using regular Skype, which is better optimised for webcams. Using the Quicklink TX offers a more streamlined workflow, and also allows us to use our broadcast-quality cameras, which we can output as a 16:9 video. Our regular Skype defaults to 4:3 aspect ratio and resulted in suboptimal interviews.”

The Mises Institute also uses the Quicklink TX to record weekly high quality audio podcasts. The unit supports the management of multi Skype call management and has seamless integration with all production mixer systems.

“This is great unit, and we are really pleased with the professional results achieved. The Quicklink support team has been exceptional and very helpful”.

The Quicklink software Web 2 SDI has also proved of interest to the organisation. The software can be used on any Windows desktop in order to simply output any web content to SD/HD SDI content.

Established in 1985, Ryanair has grown from a small airline to a major passenger carrier which services up to 31 countries.

The Quicklink reseller Eurotek has supplied Ryanair with the Quicklink TX call management system which is powered by Skype TX software.

Previously, Ryanair used telephone conferencing but due to quality of the telephone line were unable to hear and conduct quality business briefings. The airline needed to conduct face-to-face communication between two or more people in various different locations. There was a requirement for an alternative to phone conferencing with an inexpensive means of communication with distant colleagues and partners.

The Quicklink TX enables Ryanair professional reception or transmission of Skype calls through an SDI/ HDMI interface.

A free and exclusive feature for the Quicklink TX is the network enhancer called Bondio. Bondio improves the contributor’s bandwidth by bonding a combination of internet connections together to create one super connection. Once installed this allows companies like Ryanair to use the solution even when they have lossy networks in order to produce a single stable, high quality transmission.

The integration of the Quicklink TX system into Ryanair’s workflow has created a cost effective option to ensure optimal video and audio quality.

The Quicklink TX is now available with multiple Skype call options. For more information, please contact Quicklink on +44 1792 720880 or email sales@quicklink.tv
