FOX News Channel has recently used the Quicklink TX solution for news poll interviews on the American election programme “Fox with Friends” with the Former Chief of Staff John Sununu.
The Quicklink TX is a compact touchscreen 1U rack mount or desktop unit that enables professional reception or transmission of Skype calls through the SDI/ HDMI interface. The Quicklink TX has the added advantage of being ultra-quiet, thus ensuring that news broadcasts can be transmitted without any noise interference. Fox News used the Quicklink TX to transmit high quality 2 way video and audio from a remote office location back to a Quicklink TX in the TV station.
Another new feature for the Quicklink TX solution is a network enhancer called Bondio™. This revolutionary software is available free of charge for a limited period with the purchase of the Quicklink TX. Bondio™ improves the contributor’s bandwidth by bonding a combination of internet connections together to create one super connection. This allows broadcasters to use the solution even when they have lossy networks in order to produce a single stable, high quality transmission.

Quicklink announces the launch of new hardware to compliment the latest Skype TX Controller Software
Quicklink Video Distribution Services have announced the launch of a new version of the Quicklink Skype TX hardware that will be released to coincide with the latest version of the Microsoft Skype TX Controller software. The Quicklink TX server is universally standards based and is compatible with all the Microsoft Skype TX systems now on the market.
The Quicklink TX is a device designed for use in Television production studios and other professional environments that enables you to send or receive Skype calls as SD/HD-SDI or HDMI video with embedded or balanced analogue audio, providing the best call quality available in an HD video format.
This latest new hardware launch of the Quicklink TX Server also offers increased flexibility to the user by the increase in choices of audio and video input /outputs that can be selected. The full range of digital and analog input/outputs are now available including the added flexibility for users to be able to switch the audio on the fly between the studio and the gallery.
A new touchscreen interface on the front of the Quicklink TX unit ensures call status notification on the front panel display. Other statistics include System I.D. Caller Status, Video and Audio Status and Hardware Health Status
The TX automatically optimises the call quality and resizes and adjusts the video content to conform to standard television video resolutions. It even monitors the call and automatically drops the video feed of the call (but not the audio) and switches to a still image of the video feed if the call drops below a quality level that you define. The intuitive design of the system allows for stacking of multiple units and also makes it ideal for use in low noise environments.
The Microsoft Skype TX Controller software provides customers with the ability to control multiple Quicklink TX channels from a single UI. Calls can be initiated to any contact in the central contacts database and once configured, all Skype TX features can be accessed by Skype TX Controller. The Skype TX controller now includes live video previews, remote setting controls and integration with Skype Contacts.
Quicklink will be showcasing the latest in professional broadcast solutions on the Concillium Technologies Booth E9 at Mediatech.
Mediatech Africa is the largest media and entertainment technology trade show for southern Africa and will be staged this year from 15th to 17th July at the Dome at Northgate, Johannesburg.
Under the spotlight will be the Quicklink TX designed in partnership with Microsoft to bring remote guests into a live production. The Quicklink TX enables professional reception or transmission of Skype calls through the SDI and HDMI interface. As the Quicklink TX can receive from any video-enabled Skype device this gives broadcasters unrivaled access to 300 million monthly connected Skype users.
Quicklink also announce their new software solution for the Quicklink TX called Bondio™. This revolutionary software is available free of charge for a limited period with the purchase of the Quicklink TX. Bondio™ improves the bandwidth by bonding a combination of internet connections together to create one super connection. This allows broadcasters to use the solution even when they have lossy networks in order to produce a single stable, high quality transmission.

Quicklink Video Distribution Services was relied on recently to provide a broadcast encoding solution for the JP Morgan Challenge Run. The 23rd annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge painted Frankfurt with a sea of brightly coloured t-shirts as 70,239 participants ran and walked in what is the largest race in the world thus far this year. The large turnout meant 253,000 Euro was donated to the German Sport Aid Foundation and the German Disabled Youth Foundation.
Tividoo, based in Langenlonsheim, had two vehicles for the event, each equipped with the Ka-Sat Satellite solution. The Ka-Sat car was equipped with the Quicklink 1U rack mount encoder which transmitted live real time video using the Ka Band network to a second vehicle located at the main event at Opernplatz in Frankfurt. The live stream was then able to be viewed on the JP Morgan website.
“With the Quicklink encoder and playout server it was possible for us to transmit a full HD signal from one KA Sat Terminal to another, without any high latency issues” said Tobias Gramm CEO of Tividoo. “It’s a perfect combination to stay cost effective in comparison to wireless video links.”
The Quicklink 1U encoder offers cost effective bonding combined with simplicity and ease of use. With enhanced bonding algorithms the Quicklink 1U Encoder offers flexibility and resilience. Satellite Optimisation and Adaptive Mode on advanced software ensures that the encoder offers reliability and robust performance by compensating for any satellite degradation.
The Quicklink 1U encoder is ideal for SNG truck mounting and due to its shallow footprint and 12v power, this encoder can be installed into the smallest 19”racks. The 1U Encoder is HEVC software upgradeable and works seamlessly with the full range of existing Quicklink systems and solutions. The encoder also automatically detects and remote controls the BGAN HDR terminals.
“We will now recommend all our customers to use Quicklink for sat-to-sat transmissions.” Tobias Gramm CEO of Tividoo

The Quicklink HEVC Midi Backpack has been used recently to demonstrate high-quality H.265/HEVC aerial footage with the Parrot Bebop drone at the Paris Air Show in France.
The 51st show took place at the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions from 15 to 21 June 2015, and brought together all the players in this global industry around the latest technological innovations.
The Parrot Bebop drone was demonstrated to show its capability of broadcasting live high definition video. The video was encoded with the H.265 / HEVC Midi Backpack, transmitted via the Inmarsat BGAN HDR service. The video and audio output was then decoded by the Quicklink standard playout server solution.
This demonstration successfully showed the unique and high quality footage that can be transmitted in aerial situations.
“Our 400 grams Bebop drone embedding a digitally stabilized HD camera was showing amazing live footage during this air show. This was made possible thanks to the efficient Quicklink HEVC encoding/decoding solution, key technology to keep high quality video while using such low bitrate connection”
said Yannick Levy, VP corporate business development at Parrot
